Persistence of the Z=28 Shell Gap Around ^{78}Ni: First Spectroscopy of ^{79}Cu.

In-beam γ-ray spectroscopy of ^{79}Cu is performed at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of RIKEN. The nucleus of interest is produced through proton knockout from a ^{80}Zn beam at 270  MeV/nucleon. The level scheme up to 4.6 MeV is established for the first time and the results are compared to Monte Carlo shell-model calculations. We do not observe significant knockout feeding to the excite...

NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE STUDY OF THE STRUCTURE OF GLYOXALDIHYDRAZONE

Study of the nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of glyoxaldihydrazone in dimethylsulfoxide and deuterochlorofonn leads to the conclusion that this compound exists predominantly in non-chelate structure

Extensions around Z = 2 Qsos

Based on an R-band imaging survey of 6 high redshift (z 2) and high luminosity (M B < 28 mag) QSOs, we report the detection of extensions in two radio-quiet and one radio-loud QSO. The extensions are most likely due to the host galaxies of these QSOs, with luminosities of at least 3 7 per cent of the QSO luminosity. The most likely values for the luminosity of the host galaxies lie in the range...

Nuclear proteins get around

In This Issue In This Issue Nuclear proteins get around rotein trafficking between the cytoplasm and the nucleus has been studied extensively; but how do proteins move from one site to another within the nu-cleus? On page 615, Leung and Lamond focus on the intranuclear trafficking of the RNA-binding protein NHPX, and describe an elegant series of experiments that demonstrates the existence of m...
